Growing Through Life

A pretty good cast but a boring and predictable plot. GTL is definitely "The Drive of Life" 2.0 but a little bit better and not as draggy.

Raymond Lam: I love Raymond but even my love for him couldn't make me watch this without fast forwarding. A sweet character but this character has been done many times before. 4****

Bosco Wong: The villain in here but I was not impressed. This shouldn't even be considered a villain role for Bosco. 3***

Damian Lau: 5*****

Zhao Ziqi: She was not bad in here: cute and a pretty good actress. 4****

Cecilia Yip: A little bit of exaggeration in here but she was great when she was "crazy". 4****

Toby Leung: A pretty pointless character; I didn't care for her role or acting. Toby needs to act in more versatile roles. 2**

Vionn Song: The worst actress in here; I thought Toby did better and that's not saying a lot. She's pretty but she's so stiff in all of her scenes. 1*

Survivor's Law

SL was an okay lawyer drama to watch once since it's easily forgettable.

Raymond Lam: The best part about SL is Raymond's character since he was so lovable. 5*****

Myolie Wu: I didn't really like Myolie's character in here; she was a little bit better than Bernice's character though. 4****

Sammul Chan: I don't like this character at all. 3***

The Four

I had such high expectations for TF so in a way, I felt it disappointed me. The cases were kind of boring and a lot of questions were left unanswered. However, I blame the latter problem on the editing since it was originally supposed to be 30 episodes but was shorten down to 25 episodes. I'm usually all for shortening dramas but this time around, I actually wished TF was longer. I also heard that the TV version cut/edited out a lot of Ron Ng and Sammul Chan's scenes in order for TF to end earlier so that "The Gem of Life" can air near the TVB Anniversary. I think I watched the unedited version so at least I was able to watch this drama "completely". TF began really well, got boring in the first half, was good again the second half, and then got draggy near the ending. The best part about TF is the relationship between Raymond Lam, Ron Ng, Sammul Chan, and Kenneth Ma.

Raymond Lam: I really liked his character in the beginning but was annoyed with him when he started to fall in love with Kate Tsui. I hated how he was smart when it comes to everything but love since he was tricked by Kate so many times that I have lost count! In a way, his character is realistic in that sense since love is blind for a lot of people. However, Raymond portrayed this role well and he looked so handsome when he wore white. 5*****

Ron Ng: I was looking forward to watching Ron in here since I haven't seen him in a drama since "The Brink of Law". His character was cool but a bit bland for my taste since he didn't really do anything but kill people. I wished his character showed more emotions/softness near the end though. 5*****

Sammul Chan: I like him in here since he was the comic relief; however, he can be annoying since he was indecisive and aloof when it comes to love. This was a nice comeback TVB drama for Sammul. 5*****

Kenneth Ma: I ended up liking this character a lot since I initially thought he would be boring since he's such a "goody two-shoes" but his character went through a lot and he was able to show a lot of emotions. 5*****

Kate Tsui: I think Kate looks the best in here since I actually thought she looked quite pretty in her costumes. Her character was interesting but Kate made the role too one-dimensional with her mediocre acting. This role reminded me a lot of the Michelle Yip's in "Lofty Water Verdant Bow" but not as lovable and cute. She was a little bit better at playing evil in here than in "Moonlight Resonance" though. 3***

Selena Li: I was slightly annoyed with her character in the beginning since she kept following and bickering with Kenneth Ma, but I love her after her father died since she matured a lot; she had a nice character development. Selena also looked pretty in her costumes even though they were extremely bright and colorful. 5*****

Vivi Lee: She's not the most attractive actress but I really like her in here since her acting is not bad for a newcomer. When she cried, I wanted to cry with her. I wished she had more screen time though; I look forward to more of her dramas in the near future. 4****

Cilla Kung: She's cute but she's really stiff when it comes to acting. She's not the worst newcomer ever but it didn't help that her character was not all that lovable. 2**

Raymond+Ron+Sammul+Kenneth: I don't really have a favorite constable since they each have flaws but I love them together since they complemented each other well. Initially, I wanted Bosco Wong to replace Kenneth but I don't think Bosco would have done as well as Kenneth. 5*****

Raymond+Kate: They don't look bad in terms of looks but they have zero chemistry together. I'm glad they didn't end up together since Kate is truly evil. Kate should have died instead of being alive with a disfigured face, but her ending is left open-ended so I think she will eventually die. 2**

Kenneth+Selena: They are the only official couple in here but I wished they would have shown their wedding since that would have been cute. They are adorable together and I want to see them as a couple again. It's ironic because I didn't like them as a couple in "The Master of Tai Chi" and I actually wanted Selena to couple with Raymond before watching this but I'm glad she was coupled with Kenneth instead. 5*****

Sammul+Vivi: I like them a lot together too but too bad, they didn't end up together. Optimistically, I think they will eventually end up together when Vivi finishes her studies and when Sammul decides to settle down. 4****

Ron+Cilla: They're not even a couple since it was pretty much one-sided throughout the drama and it's not even clear if Ron even likes Cilla at the end. I think Ron feels touched/pity for Cilla more than actually loving her. 1*

Themesong by Raymond Lam, Ron Ng, Sammul Chan, and Kenneth Ma: 4****

Rating: 3*** The ending was left open-ended so I sort of wish there would be a sequel but it didn't receive high ratings so the chances are pretty slim.

Moonlight Resonance

MR is the "sequel" to "Heart of Greed" and it definitely lives up to its hype and expectations. I love MR and to me, it is the best modern drama so far for the year 2008. The plot is excellent, the cast is fantastic, and I was never once bored. I wished the editing was better though since some of the scenes didn't flow smoothly enough but I blame that on the fast production instead of the plot since it was filmed and released in the same year. Minus the bad editing, another flaw to MR is the ridiculous love triangle between Raymond Lam, Linda Chung, and Bosco Wong; however, it was a little bit better than the draggy love triangle between Linda Chung, Raymond Lam, and Yoyo Mung in “Heart of Greed”. I find MR a lot more interesting than "Heart of Greed" since it moves at a faster pace, focuses more on family, and has a lot more likable characters.

Ha Yu: I like Ha Yu better in here than in "Heart of Greed" since he eventually redeems himself. Ha Yu is a fantastic actor and I'm glad he won Best Actor since he showed many sides to this character. 5*****

Louise Lee: This character is practically like the one in "Heart of Greed" but I found her too nice in here; she seems more realistic in "Heart of Greed". Louise is the ultimate mother so no complaints here. 5*****

Michelle Yim: Michelle receives a larger role in here and she doesn't disappoint! I love how evil she is and I always look forward in watching her onscreen. Her wig doesn't do any justice to her looks though since it's so ugly. She's such a great villain though! 5*****

Susanna Kwan: She's more annoying than evil in here. I like how she was able to portray a softer side to her character near the end. 5*****

Lee Heung Kam: She's a great veteran and showed many sides to her character. 5*****

Moses Chan: I like him in here but it was frustrating to see him like Kate Tsui before liking Tavia Yeung. 5*****

Raymond Lam: His character is so sweet but I don't get why he loves Linda Chung so much. Linda is not that great of a character so it was annoying watching him so heartbroken over Linda's character. 5*****

Tavia Yeung: I love her in here! I have always like Tavia as an actress but this brought a whole new level of love for Tavia as an actress. I love all of her scenes and every time she cried, I wanted to cry with her. 5*****

Linda Chung: Such a drastic change from her role in "Heart of Greed". I thought her character in "Heart of Greed" was sort of annoying but at least her acting improved. She's just plain annoying in here since I found her character useless and she made me cringed every time she cried. This is one of Linda’s worst role and bad acting. 2**

Kate Tsui: She looks so unattractive in here and her role was extremely annoying. I don't think she looks evil enough but she was convincing when she pretended to be all nice and innocent. 3***

Fala Chen: She's really cute/adorable in here! I wished she had more screen time though. She was really believable as a mute girl and her acting has improved a lot. 4****

Bosco Wong: His acting was good but his role was not as likable as Raymond's in "Heart of Greed". 4****

Louis Yuen: He is a lot less annoying in here than in "Heart of Greed" but his role did get smaller. 5*****

Chris Lai: He was a lot more likeable in "Heart of Greed" and he barely had any screen time in here. His acting has gotten worse since I thought he was a lot better in "Heart of Greed". 2**

Vincent Wan: He's sort of cute but he's so wooden and stiff in here. 1*

Ha Yu+Louise: They really look like a real couple! 5*****

Ha Yu+Michelle: 4****

Susanna+Louis: They don't look like a couple at all and I wasn't even sure if Louis even loved Susanna until the very end. They were a pretty funny couple though. 2**

Moses+Tavia: I like them together but too bad they barely had any scenes together as a couple. I'm still not convinced that Moses loves Tavia as much as Tavia loves Moses though since it seems like they hooked up for the sake of having a happy ending. 4****

Moses+Kate: A superficial couple since they like each other because of looks (for Moses) and money (for Kate). 1*

Raymond+Linda: I thought they were an okay couple in "Heart of Greed" but I hated them in here. I rather have Raymond ended up with no one since Linda is not worthy of him; she's too selfish and weak. 1*

Raymond+Tracy Ip: They don't have any chemistry together but I actually liked them better as a couple than Raymond and Linda. 1*

Linda+Bosco: A better couple than Raymond and Linda since I think they deserve each other. 2**

Bosco+Claire Yiu: I felt so bad for Claire! 1*

Kate+Chris: This is a strange couple since I don't think either one of them truly love each other. They deserve each other though. 2**

Fala+Dexter Yeung: They don't match in terms of looks at all but their characters were cute together. 3***

Themesong by Susanna Kwan: Not as strong as the one in "Heart of Greed" but still good. 4****

Rating: 5***** This is definitely a classic!

The Last Breakthrough

TLB is a very touching and inspiring drama about doctors with the right touch of romance.

Nick Cheung: 5*****

Raymond Lam: He was so cute in here and I like how his character was so honest and straightforward in love and in what he wants. 5*****

Sonija Kwok: This is the role that made me start to like Sonija since I thought she improved a lot and it was a likable role. 3***

Leila Tong: Her crying was excellent in here but I was sometimes so frustrated with her character for denying Raymond's love. 5*****

Bosco Wong: 5*****

Sharon Chan: Her character can be so annoying since she's the third wheel in Raymond and Leila's relationship but she did a nice job at it. 3***

Twin of Brothers

I was so excited to watch this since I love the main cast and by just looking at the pictures, I fell in love with Ron Ng and Leila Tong as a couple. Although not the greatest drama, since the political problems were kind of boring and the plot was sometimes draggy, the cast and the chemistries between them saved this drama.

Raymond Lam: 5*****

Ron Ng: He was still too stiff and "wooden" in some scenes. 3***

Tavia Yeung: I like her character in here since her actions were understandable. A lot of people didn't like her in here because she rejected Raymond for her family but I thought she was selfless and not blinded by love like every stereotypical woman in ancient dramas. Tavia also looked gorgeous in here. 5*****

Leila Tong: A lot of people also didn't like Leila in here because her character is too "boring" but how exciting can a priestess be if she's devoted to a life without male encounters and love. I thought Leila brought out many layers to this role that other young actresses probably couldn't do. I love her costume and hairstyle in here. 5*****

Li Qian: Everybody loves her in here but I thought her character was annoying and she's not attractive to the eyes. However, I don't think she's a bad actress. 3***

Nancy Wu: I don't really like Nancy but she was good in here. Her character wasn't all that likable to me but she was for practically everybody else though. 4****

Raymond+Tavia: They look really good together but too bad they didn't end up together. 4****

Raymond+Li Qian: Some of their scenes were cute but I still prefer Raymond with Tavia. 3***

Ron+Leila: My fourth favorite TVB couple since they are so cute together! 5*****

Lofty Waters Verdant Bow

This drama pretty much doesn't have a plot but the chemistry between Raymond Lam and Michelle Yip is excellent. It was pretty much boring besides the scenes between Raymond and Michelle. The ending pretty much saved this drama since it was touching and nicely developed.

Raymond Lam: This is pretty much my least favorite character portrayed by Raymond since he was so clueless on who he loves until the very end. 4****

Michelle Yip: A breakthrough role for Michelle since she was the star of LWVB. 5*****

Rain Li: She was okay in the beginning but as the drama progresses, she got worse and worse. 1*

Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion

I was so excited to watch this drama but it was kind of a disappointment after I finished watching it since it was so boring in some scenes. Nevertheless, it was watchable because of Raymond Lam since his role was so complex because he's not the normal hero.

Raymond Lam: 5*****

Bosco Wong: 5*****

La Femme Desperado

I really like this drama because of Sheren Tang and Michael Tse. They were excellent in here and the plot focused on modern women and their problems in love and work. I really like Melissa Ng and Raymond Lam too but they were kind of annoying near the end and although this drama was good, the ending was unsatisfying.

Sheren Tang: 5*****

Face to Fate

The half first of FTF is really good but it sort of went downhill after that and the ending was unsatisfying.

Frankie Lam: This role reminded me too much of the one in The Herbalist's Manual. He did a better job in here though. 5*****

Raymond Lam: I like how this role was a little different with his hair turning white but it still reminded me of the one in Twin of Brothers. 5*****

Tavia Yeung: Her character was annoying but her acting is good. 4****

Eternal Happiness

This is the first drama that I watched of Michelle Yip and Raymond Lam as leading stars and I like it a lot. It's such a cute and funny drama.

Michelle Yip: I love her in here and because of this role, I became her fan. 5*****

Raymond Lam: He was so convincing as a dumb boy, a total change from his role in A Step into the Past. If TVB is allowed to adapt Jin Yong's works in the future, Raymond will be the new, perfect Guo Jing. 5*****

Joe Ma: He was okay; I didn't really like his character though. 4****

Tavia Yeung: She's so pretty in here, a lot prettier than Michelle! I love her character and I became sort of a fan of Tavia after this. 5*****

Michelle+Raymond: My second favorite couple in TVB. They have a lot of chemistry and are just so cute together. 5*****

Michelle+Joe: Joe is too old for Michelle. They are better as friends than lovers. 2**

Raymond+Myolie Wu: They looked okay together; Myolie's role was sad. 3***

A lot of people don't like this drama but I thought it wasn't too bad. The first half is a lot better than the second half since it ended with a lot of unanswered questions.

Adam Cheng: Brilliant as always. 5*****

Liza Wang: I like her in here since she was a clever woman. 5*****

Raymond: I felt so sad for his character since he went through so many hardships. 5*****

A Step into the Past

This is my favorite Louis Koo's drama and sadly, this is his last drama he has done (for now). The cast is pretty well known and they all did a pretty good job except for Sonija Kwok and Michelle Saram. ASITP is really funny and addicting to watch since it pretty much has everything in here. Although there are draggy scenes, they can be forgiven since as a whole, the drama was pretty much perfect.

Louis Koo: I love him in here although I wished his character wasn’t so obsessed with Sonija Kwok. 5*****

Jessica Hsuan: I love her in here too but she was more lovable in the second half since she was so stubborn and naïve in the beginning. 5*****

Raymond Lam: For his second big role (his first “leading” role was in "A Recipe for the Heart"), he was so good! I started to like him in here since his acting was pretty much flawless! 5*****

Sonija Kwok: I disliked Sonija because of this role since she was so stiff and I didn’t think she was very pretty. I’m glad her acting has improved throughout the years. 1*

Joyce Tang: Her role was small in here but she was excellent for the minimal screen time she had. 5*****

Kwong Wa: He’s always a good actor so no complaints here. I don’t think he’s acting anymore, which is a shame. 5*****

Michelle Saram: Although she was bad in "Meteor Garden II", she’s even worse in here since she was pretty much like a wooden person. 1*

Louis+Jessica: They are the best couple in all of TVB couples since they have so much chemistry together! They are legendary together so I just wish they would co-star in just one more drama and my life would be partially complete. Or even better, they should just hook up in real life! 5*****

Louis+Sonija: I don’t like this couple at all; it would have been better if Louis only ended up with Jessica. 1*

Themesong by Louis Koo: I love it even if Louis is not that great of a singer… 5*****

Rating: 5***** This is a classic and a must-watch!

The Master of Tai Chi

I was so excited to watch this when it first came out but was disappointed with its ratings and I can see why. The first half of TMOTC was really good since it kept you wanting to watch more but as soon as Vincent Zhao's master died, it pretty much went downhill. It became so slow and draggy that I pretty much didn't care what happened in the middle; however, it became interesting again near the end. The characters development was pretty good; I just wished the plot could have been better since I felt there really wasn't a plot.

Vincent Zhao: This is my first time watching him act and I thought he did a really good job. He, along with Melissa Ng, saved this drama from being a disaster. He's also really cute so I wouldn't mind watching him in another drama. 5*****

Melissa Ng: She has always been a good actress so it's sad to see that she probably won't act anymore since she's now married with kids. Although her hair was really ugly in here, I thought she looked cute in some angles. 5*****

Raymond Lam: I sort of felt he was a useless character since he was mainly there just so Myolie Wu can use him. Although his role was stupid, Raymond did a good job and was enjoyable to watch on-screen. 5*****

Myolie Wu: I usually find Myolie to be a pretty good actress but she was such a pain to watch in here. Her character was horrible and her acting was probably one of worst I have seen from her. I was so annoyed with her that the only time I sort of like her was when she lost her memory and near the end. Her acting was a little better in the end but it's still such a big disappointment. 2**

Kenneth Ma: I usually like Kenneth's roles but this character was so hard to like since he was so stupid and annoying. His acting wasn't that great either; he acts better in other dramas. 2**

Selena Li: I usually like Selena since I think she has potential to be a good actress but she was so annoying in here. I also think she acts better in other roles. 3***

Vincent+Melissa: The cutest couple in here but sadly, they didn't end up together. Such a disappointment since they balanced each other out really well. 4****

Raymond+Myolie: I never understood why Raymond even loves Myolie at all since she was so "crazy" but I guess love is blind. I thought they were cute in Survivor's Law but not in here. 2**

Kenneth+Selena: A relationship formed because of lust. Kenneth doesn't deserve Selena since she's so much better than him. They didn't really have any chemistry and they look kind of awkward together too. 2**

Vincent+Myolie: I honestly don't understand why Myolie is so crazy in love with Vincent since he's not even nice to her! A horrible couple... 1*

Melissa+Kenneth: Melissa looks too much like Kenneth's older sister to be his wife. They fitted better as "brother and sister" than husband and wife. 1*

Ending song by Raymond Lam: I like it a lot; Raymond is a good singer. 5*****

Rating: 2.5** It was watchable the first time but I probably won't watch this again besides for Vincent, Melissa, Raymond, the fighting scenes, and the scenery.

Heart of Greed

Such a big and good cast and it wasn't a disappointment (maybe the ending but was still good overall).

Moses Chan: A lovable role. No complaints. 5*****

Linda Chung: She improved heaps but was kind of overrated since I sometimes found her annoying. 4****

Raymond Lam: I couldn't hate his role nor could the rest of the world. 5*****

Bosco Wong: I don't get why people complained about him since his role was boring, not his acting. 4****

Tavia Yeung: Like Linda, Tavia was kind of overrated since it wasn't all that shocking or a controversial role, but she showed a lot of emotions. 5*****

Moses+Linda: Sad that Linda didn't choose Moses until the end; such a pure relationship. They look weird together though. 4****

Linda+Raymond: Cute but their bickerings got really annoying. An overrated couple in my opinion but they look good together. 4****

Bosco+Tavia: I like them together but I'm not a diehard fan. 4****

Raymond+Yoyo Mung: Awkward and they don't look good together at all. 2**

Themesong by Susanna Kwan: Very powerful and good. 5*****

Rating: 4**** I would watch this again.

Actors Part I

Favorites:
  1. Louis Koo - same with Jessica Hsuan; I don't remember when I started to like him either. I like his roles in The Return of the Condor Heroes 1995 and War and Remembrance, but I love him when he's darker so I guess the obsession started in Detective Investigative Files IV.
  2. Julian Cheung - I officially like Julian in Point of No Return but I enjoyed watching him in Take My Word For It.
  3. Raymond Lam - I used to think Raymond was a copycat of Louis because they are both dark but I think he's an even better actor than Louis himself. It all started with A Step into the Past.
  4. Bosco Wong - I used to dislike Bosco for his role in Find the Light but he won me over in Triumph in the Skies, even though his role was small.
  5. Ron Ng - I'm embarrassed to say I like Ron since he's kind of a bad actor but he has been improving... I thought he was really good looking in Find the Light.
  6. Andy Lau - I love Andy in Infernal Affairs and the Return of the Condor Heroes 1983.
