Take My Word For It

TMWFI is not the best police/detective drama since it's not memorable but the acting from the cast made up for it.

Bobby Au Yeung: 5*****

Kenix Kwok: 5*****

Julian Cheung: He was so nice that it can be frustrating. 5*****

Annie Man: She's adorable in here! 5*****

Leila Tong: She acted as Annie's sister and was really cute but sadly, her role was really small. 4****

Return of the Cuckoo

When looking back at this drama, it had a pretty good cast but most of the artists weren't as popular back then (ex. Charmaine Sheh and Steven Ma). A lot of people love this drama but I thought it was only okay since it was rather boring and the ending was rather abrupt and left opened.

Julian Cheung: A very lovable character and he was extremely convincing as a mute man. 5*****

Charmaine Sheh: I was rather annoyed with her character since she was too wishy-washy on who she loves. 3***

Steven Ma: I remember liking him so I think he did a good job. 4****

Michael Tong: The first drama in which Michael loses Charmaine to Steven (the second drama is "Perish in the Name of Love"). 4****

Julian+Charmaine: Surprisingly, I actually didn't like them as a couple until "Point of No Return" since I was rooting for Steven throughout this drama. 3***

Charmaine+Steven: 4****

Charmaine+Michael: 2**

Themesong by Julian Cheung: A little bit too sad for my taste but Julian's voice is amazing. 3***

Rating: 2** ROTC was kind of an overrated drama.

The Legend of the Condor Heroes 1994

LOCH 1994 was the first "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" adaptation I have ever seen and I enjoyed watching it but I always felt something was lacking. Therefore, I watched the 1983 adaptation and fell in love with that and completely forgot about this. I just recently got a copy of this and decided to watch this again after about twelve years to compare and not to compare this adaptation to the 1983 one.

The best aspect of this adaptation is the plot since it moves at a fast pace and it's true to the novel. I think this adaptation might be the truest to the novel so far...at least for TVB since I'm not sure about the Mainland Chinese ones. There is not once a draggy moment since it follows the novel very closely and I find the plot to be easier to understand in this adaptation.

Julian Cheung: Everybody says that Julian looks too "smart" to be Guo Jing and I agree to a point. He does sometimes look smarter than Guo Jing is supposed to be, but I found Julian to be a great actor since he was also able to portrayed dumbness and slowness very well. Julian is my second choice, after Felix Wong, as Guo Jing. 5*****

Athena Chu: Athena surprised me here since she was really lovable and cute as Huang Rong. I think this is her best role to date. Although I like Barbara Yung's portrayal better, Athena is my second choice as Huang Rong. 5*****

Gallen Lo: Gallen is usually a great actor but he was a miscast in here as Yang Kang. He didn't make me believe he's Yang Kang; however, his acting was okay. Thus, he only made an okay Yang Kang. 3***

Emily Kwan: Another miscast as Mu Nian Ci since she's not pretty enough and she doesn't look soft/elegant enough. However, her acting, in a way, made up for it since she's not the worst Mu Nian Ci. 3***

Julian+Athena: There are a lot more "romantic" scenes in here and I thought Julian and Athena were cute together, but there wasn't a lot of chemistry between them. 4****

Gallen+Emily: I couldn't feel the love between them so I was always questioning if they even loved each other. 2**

Themesong by Julian Cheung and Jacqueline Ng: 2** A disappointment since I don't like it at all.

Rating: 4.5**** The second best adaptation after the 1983 one due to some bad casting decisions. I enjoyed watching this but sadly, this is constantly disliked and underrated.

Shades of Truth

A clever and funny modern-day adaptation of a Chinese tale mixed with the movie Infernal Affairs (starring Andy Lau and Tong Leung).

Julian Cheung: 5*****

Wong Hei: 5*****

Gigi Lai: Her hair was so crazy in here! This was a pretty "sexy" role for her. 5*****

Point of No Return

I like this drama a lot but there were some draggy scenes. The scenes with Julian Cheung and Charmaine Sheh are the best and they can be considered as classics.

Julian Cheung: He was such a mischievous boy but he wasn’t a typical rich, playboy. 5*****

Charmaine Sheh: I like her role but was annoyed with her when she rejected Julian to marry Sammul Chan. 5*****

Sammul Chan: His character was nice and sweet but I hated him for marrying Charmaine and taking her away from Julian. 3***

Kevin Cheng: He was cute but a jerk to Charmaine's character.

Julian+Charmaine: My third most favorite TVB couple. I want them to co-star in another drama but it’ll probably be harder now since Julian is married to Anita Yuen and they have a son together. 5*****

Actors Part I

Favorites:
  1. Louis Koo - same with Jessica Hsuan; I don't remember when I started to like him either. I like his roles in The Return of the Condor Heroes 1995 and War and Remembrance, but I love him when he's darker so I guess the obsession started in Detective Investigative Files IV.
  2. Julian Cheung - I officially like Julian in Point of No Return but I enjoyed watching him in Take My Word For It.
  3. Raymond Lam - I used to think Raymond was a copycat of Louis because they are both dark but I think he's an even better actor than Louis himself. It all started with A Step into the Past.
  4. Bosco Wong - I used to dislike Bosco for his role in Find the Light but he won me over in Triumph in the Skies, even though his role was small.
  5. Ron Ng - I'm embarrassed to say I like Ron since he's kind of a bad actor but he has been improving... I thought he was really good looking in Find the Light.
  6. Andy Lau - I love Andy in Infernal Affairs and the Return of the Condor Heroes 1983.
