The Season of Fate

TSOF had a great cast, lovable characters, and an okay plot. The plot was not as bad as everybody else made it to be; although I have to admit that it was pretty slow and draggy. TSOF is also Esther Kwan's second comeback drama after "Best Selling Secrets".

Esther Kwan: I love her in here and her character was so pitiable. After watching her in here, I remembered how much I love watching her act; Esther is a fantastic actress. 5*****

Roger Kwok: His character was lovable even though he was a con artist and selfish at times. I love Roger and he never disappoints in any dramas he's in. 5*****

Derek Kwok: I love him in here! Derek is such a fantastic actor since he was so believable as a feminine eunuch. I felt so bad for him since he never does get the love of his life even though it was understandable why he didn't. 5*****

Michelle Yim: She was so great as a "teenager"! I can't believe a 54-year-old actress can portray a "teenager" so well; this is evidence that Michelle is a fantastic actress! She was cute as a "teenager" in here and I wished she was like this the whole time since she became "mean" when she acted her "age". 5*****

Ng Wai Kwok: I have only seen him portrayed as a good person so it was a nice change in here. He was convincing as a man with two faces. 5*****

Oscar Leung: I think this is Oscar's largest role to date and he did a good job; although I don't think he's ready for the leading role yet. 3***

Vivien Yeo: She was okay in here; I am pretty indifferent towards her character. 3***

Elena Kong: Another ATV-turned-TVB actress and Elena was okay in here; her role wasn't large enough for me to see her acting skills. 3***

Regen Cheung: She was cute but she still needs improvements. 3***

Mimi Lo: I like the change of character for Mimi in here. I wished she had a larger role though. 4****

Esther+Roger: They were adorable in here. 4****

Esther+Derek: A part of me wanted them to end up together but I think I liked Esther with Roger a little bit better. 4****

Esther+Roger+Derek: A great love triangle and I think this can be on par with Tavia Yeung, Steven Ma, and Raymond Wong's love triangle in "Sweetness in the Salt". I also had a hard time choosing which person Esther should end up. 5*****

Esther+Savio Tsang: There were barely any scenes between them. 1*

Michelle+Savio Tsang: There were also barely any scenes between them but from the flashbacks and stories, they seem nice together. 2**

Ng Wai Kwok+Elena: They don't really act like husband and wife most of the time. It might be because of Elena's limited screen time. 2**

Ng Wai Kwok+Mimi: I don't see why Mimi's character was so madly in love with Ng Wai Kwok's character. 1*

Oscar+Vivien: They were okay. I felt like Vivien was Oscar's older sister even though Oscar is older than her in real life. 3***

Michelle+Ng Wai Kwok: They were nice as "brother and sister" but that was really it. 2**

Michelle+Roger: They actually looked okay together. 2**

Themesong by Michael Tse: I didn't know Michael was a singer and dancer before he became a actor (this makes a lot of sense on why he likes to dance so much in his dramas...) so I was surprised when I found out this was sung by him. I love this song a lot and it's one of my favorite themesongs this year so far. 5*****

D.I.E. Again

I thought the first one was overrated since it was only an okay drama, but the second one was surprising pretty good. It's probably because I didn't get my hopes up this time around, but I thought the cases were slightly better since although it was still predictable on who the bad guys were, the process of getting there was interesting. I also like the addition of some of the new cast (Macy Chan, Him Law, and Zac Koo). However, I don't get why TVB made a big deal that Roger Kwok and Sonija Kwok's baby would have a big role in here though because the baby wasn't all that important until the end. Also, the last case was really similar to the "Saw" series; maybe it was supposed to be a parody?

Roger Kwok: I love Roger in here since his character is so cute and smart! It was kind of random that there was no explanation for how he didn't died in the first one though since I didn't get to watch the alternative ending. 5*****

Sonija Kwok: She was slightly less annoying in here since I grew to like her stubborn and impulsive nature. Her constant chasing of Wong Ching was also hilarious. 4****

Derek Kwok: His character is sweet so it was sad that he couldn't end up with Margie Tsang. 5*****

Nancy Wu: Her haircut was really ugly in here but she was good. 4****

Mimi Lo: Her character is hilarious in here! I wished she had more screen time though. 5*****

Stephen Huynh: He looks really good in here and I like the chemistry he has with Mimi. 4****

Macy Chan: Her character reminded me a lot of her character in "Forensic Heroes II"; it was cute but too repetitive. 3***

Him Law: This is the first time I have seen him act and he's pretty good. He's pretty cute and funny. 3***

Rain Lau: She's always a great actress! 5*****

Kitty Yuen: Her character was interesting in here. I didn't like her too much in the first one but she was interesting to watch in here. 3***

Zac Koo: His character cracked me up with his vanity. This is also the first time I have seen him act and he was pretty good. He reminds me so much of Michael Miu when he was young though! 3***

Jessie Shum: She portrayed the icy, but has a hidden "wild" side, forensic scientist well. Her character was underdeveloped though; I thought she was going to be the love interest for either Roger or Stephen. 3***

Roger+Sonija: Their characters are still cute together. 4****

Roger+Anita Chan: Their teenage love was cute. 3***

Derek+Nancy: I like Derek and Margie better but Derek and Nancy were surprising not too bad as a couple. 3***

Nancy+Edwin: They look better as a couple in terms of looks but there weren't really any chemistry. 2**

Mimi+Stephen: I really like them together and it was cute watching their married life. 4****

Macy+Him: I'm assuming they ended up together since it wasn't too clear. They're really cute together too. 4****

Macy+Zac: I like Macy with Him better but they were not bad together either. 3***

Themesong by Roger Kwok: It's pretty much just the remix of the first one. 3***

Rating: 4**** A lot better than the first one but too bad it's underrated.

The Threshold of a Persona

I had a hard time deciding on whether to watch this or not because I heard mixed reviews. Overall, TTOAP was an okay watch; the plot was simple and at times repetitive since it only deals with immigration and family problems. The characters developments were good, but it would have been better if there were less episodes since it was slow and kind of draggy in the middle. However, I heard the Hong Kong version had 27 episodes instead of 30 and some people were disappointed.

Roger Kwok: Not my favorite role of Roger's since he seems so "cowardly" when it comes to his wife, but Roger did a good job. 5*****

Yoyo Mung: Another repetitive role for Yoyo but she does a pretty good job at it. I kind of feel bad for Yoyo though because she always portrays the selfless characters who don't get the main characters' attention until the very last minute. 4****

Claire Yiu: I think this is my favorite role of Claire's since she was really believable in her scenes. Her character was really interesting to watch and she looked really pretty in here. I felt so sad for her character though. 5*****

Raymond Cho: His character was for the most part kind of inconsistent since he became too "extreme". I think the writers tried too hard to make him the ultimate "villain". This is also the first drama to feature Raymond and John Chiang together after Raymond became John's son-in-law in real life. 4****

Patrick Tang: I actually like him in here since he was the sweet and protective older brother. His acting was also pretty good in here. 4****

Toby Leung: She was annoying when she refused to accept her "family" but she was okay to watch for the most part. She always portrays stubborn characters so it's not an exception in here. Her hairstyle was also horrible in here. 3***

Natalie Tong: She's cute as a single mother in here. 4****

Kenny Wong: His character was so sweet to Claire's. I felt bad for him when Claire couldn't return his love. 5*****

Power Chan: A good performance and I'm glad nothing bad happened to him at the end. 5*****

Ruco Chan: I liked him better in "A Great Way to Care" but he did an okay job in here. 3***

Ben Wong: He's such a caring older brother in here. 5*****

Roger+Claire: They made a pretty cute couple in here so it was sad that they didn't get their happy ending after what they had to go through. 4****

Roger+ Yoyo: It seems like they only ended up together because they had nobody else and they are the main characters. It was kind of forced since all of a sudden, Yoyo started to like Roger. 3***

Yoyo+Raymond: They were okay but did Raymond even love Yoyo? 3***

Claire+Kenny: I like Kenny's devotion to Claire but I don't think Claire ever love him. More like thankfulness? 3***

Patrick+Toby: It seems like they only got together because Natalie rejected Patrick so he had nobody else but Toby. 2**

Natalie+Ruco: They don't look bad together. 2**

Patrick+Natalie: I was rooting for them to end up together but it didn't happen. 3***

Not Just A Pretty Face

I enjoyed watching the first few episodes due to Roger Kwok but as the drama progressed, NJAPF became so boring and pointless. I had to force myself to finish this since I didn't want to waste money.

Roger Kwok: Even Roger was not enough to save this drama from being a disaster. 4****

Joey Yung: I didn't know Joey was a famous singer until this; I thought she was just some new actress who wasn't all that attractive when I watched this. Her acting was okay; she's not too bad in comedies. 3***

Kevin Cheng: He's so hot in here but I didn't like his character. This is the first drama that I started to notice Kevin. 3***

Roger+Joey: 2**

Joey+Kevin: 1*

Last One Standing

LOS has always been on my to-watch list ever since it began filming because of its intriguing plot and new roles for both Roger Kwok and Kevin Cheng. I love LOS and it's the one of the best dramas for the year 2008. LOS is also the best mysterious and dark drama in the longest time. I'm usually bored with these types of dramas that only revolve around one case or murder like "Misleading Track", "The Price of Greed", "Phoenix Rising", and "Love Exchange", but LOS completely blew me way with its fast-paced, realistic, and intelligent plot. The only flaws are that the supporting cast is not as great as the two leading actors and it was a little bit slow in the beginning. It's sad that LOS (as well as "The Silver Chamber of Sorrows") was overshadowed by "Moonlight Resonance" during the Anniversary so it's practically underrated. I would love to watch a sequel to LOS since the ending was left open-ended but I don't want the sequel to ruin LOS so it's best to leave it the way it is. However, if the sequel is like how "Moonlight Resonance" is for "Heart of Greed" than I wouldn't mind since it will only be similar in plot with the same actors and actresses.

Roger Kwok: Roger brought a whole new level to his acting in this role since he was so convincing as an evil person pretending to be nice. He scared me so much since his intense/crazy looks were so believable! I love Roger acting as a villain so I hope he will portray more villainous roles in the future. But too bad he didn't get any recognition for this role at the Anniversary. 5*****

Kevin Cheng: Kevin was also extremely great in here since he really seem like a hot-tempered "thug" in here. I think Kevin acts his best as "good" guys with flaws or semi-evil like in "The Ultimate Crime Fighter" and "The Seventh Day" since he seem bored when his characters are the "goodie two-shoes" ones. 5*****

Yoyo Mung: I was actually a little bit disappointed with Yoyo here since she was only okay in here. She could have brought a lot more depth to her character since this role is torn between believing in Roger or believing in Kevin. 3***

Macy Chan: I still can't believe that she was "Formula" in "Forensic Heroes II" since she looks a lot prettier (even with the ugly wig and glasses) in here. Her acting was also not too bad in here; she was convincing when she went "crazy" near the end. I look forward to watching her in more dramas in the near future. 3***

Elaine Yiu: Elaine constantly improves and gets prettier in every drama I watch her in. I wonder if she is still as hated as before since I think Toby Leung has taken that spot. 3***

Lai Suen: She was perfect. 5*****

Rosanne Lui: I never really noticed her in any of the dramas but she was really good at portraying a person with Parkinson's. 5*****

Kiki Sheung: She's so annoying in here since she never trusts her children but Kiki did a good job. 5*****

Yvonne Ho: Maybe I felt bad for her since although her acting was bad, I felt it was bearable but it could also be that her screen time was lessen in the middle and ending. 2**

Ellesmere Choi: He was annoying in the beginning but he became a comic relief after that so he was fun to watch at times when LOS got too dark. 4****

Evergreen Mak: He's another comic relief in here and his character was lovable. 4****

Fiona Yuen: It's sad to hear that this is Fiona's last TVB drama (for now since she might return later on) since I always like her as an actress but it's probably better that she left since she barely gets any roles in dramas. 4****

Roger+Kevin: I love the fighting between them! 5*****

Roger+Yoyo: 3***

Kevin+Yoyo: 2**

Kevin+Elaine: I actually kind of like them together in the beginning but too bad, they were never an official couple. 3***

Instrumental Music: The suspenseful background music in here was great since it added a sense of darkness to LOS. 5*****

Hero

A.K.A World's Finest. I watched this because of Michelle Yip and because of good reviews. I was only interested in Michelle Yip and Wallace Huo's storyline since the other characters were okay or boring.

Roger Kwok: He's funny in here but I was bored with his and Tammy Chen's plot since they were just a normal, bickering couple. 5*****

Wallace Huo: He's so hot in here and I love how his character was so devoted to Michelle Yip. 5*****

Michelle Yip: Another role where she dresses up as a man but I guess it's because she's good at it? It was irritating to watch her when she liked Li Ya Peng though since I felt so bad for Wallace. 5*****

Li Ya Peng: I only liked him when he was with Eva Huang. 4****

Tammy Chen: She was okay; I was annoyed with her character most of the time though. 3***

Gao Yuan Yuan: I find her really pretty but her role wasn't too important until near the end. 4****

Roger+Tammy: 3***

To Get Unstuck In Time

The first half of this drama was excellent and although the second half was still good, it's not as great as the first half.

Life Made Simple

A.K.A. Square Pegs II since it's the modern day sequel of Square Pegs. This is not as good as the first one since it's was draggy and boring in some scenes.

Roger Kwok: He saved this drama since he was once again fantastic. 5*****

Jessica Hsuan: 5*****

Leila Tong: She played the "evil" role well. 5******

Bosco Wong: His character was a jerk to Jessica. 4****

Angela Tong: A breakthrough role since she played an ugly character. 4****

Roger+Jessica: They were not as cute as in the first one since the relationship would only work in ancient times. 3***

Square Pegs

I had little expectations when I began watching this since I thought it was just going to be another comedy. However, it's so funny, sweet, and refreshing to watch; a must-watch! The ending was horrible but it can be forgiven.

Leila Tong: I disliked Leila's role in here but her acting was okay. 3***

D.I.E.

After hearing so many great reviews for this, I was excited to watch this. Although a good drama, it didn't really appeal to me until the second half since the first half seem too ridiculous, Sonija Kwok's character was kind of annoying, and the cases were too easily solved by me. I do give TVB props for creating a surprising ending even if it wasn't a great one. This ending kind of reminded me of "To Catch the Uncatchable's" ending.

Roger Kwok: Roger never fails to disappoint me since he has excellent acting in every role he acts in. He also gets more cute and handsome as he ages. 5*****

Sonija Kwok: I have come to like Sonija's acting since she was convincing in here and I like how she's taking on different roles. I found her character annoying in the beginning but she's such a strong, independent woman that you can't really hate her. 4****

Kenneth Ma: Kenneth looks so handsome in here but his character is such a jerk for cheating. He does redeem himself at the end so he's more likable in here than in "The Master of Tai Chi". 3***

Margie Tsang: I am so glad she's acting again because she was an actress during the 1980's that I like. Although she's not as pretty as before, I like how she's natural and her acting was fantastic. 5*****

Mimi Lo: I love her character in here since she's so funny! She can be annoying in the beginning since she's obsessed with Roger but she gets better after she gives up on him. 4****

Roger+Sonija: I initially didn't like them together because Roger is too old for Sonija but their characters were cute together. Too bad it was a sad ending for them... 4****

Sonija+Kenneth: Sonija looks older than Kenneth even though I think they're about the same age in real life? They had cute scenes together but there wasn't enough chemistry between them. 3***

Kenneth+Queenie Chu: They look better as a couple but I don't think either one of them truly loved each other since their relationship formed because of lust and responsibility. 3***

Margie+Derek Kwok: Margie looked older than Derek but they were cute together. 4****

Mimi+Stephen Huynh: They were adorable together but I wished there were more scenes of them together and there should at least have been an explanation on how they hook up since it was out of nowhere that they became a couple. 4****

Themesong by Roger Kwok: I like the song but I think I would have like it even more if another singer sang it since Roger is a fantastic actor but not that great of a singer. 3***

Rating: 3*** I think I got my hopes up but I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Road for the Heroes

This is a very old drama so I don't think a lot people know/remember this one. I first watched this when I was about five or six years old and I just recently watched this again and I still love it as much as I did about fifteen years ago. This is a really funny drama and had an excellent cast. Sadly, I only know the names of the three main cast since the rest of the actors/actresses are no longer acting; what a pity.

Roger Kwok: Roger is excellent in comedic roles! He was also great in his serious/sad scenes. 5*****

Alvina Kong: She's a fantastic actress and I love her in here! I'm so glad she's acting again in "Best Selling Secrets". She's really good in comedic roles. 5*****

Michael Tao: One of the few evil roles that Michael had and I thought he did a pretty good job but he seemed lost sometimes. He's better in good character roles. 4****

Roger+Alvina: They make a cute couple; although, there were barely any intimate scenes between them. I would like to see them act together again in another drama. 5*****

Themesong by Jacky Cheung: Jacky is an excellent singer but I thought the song was too serious for a comedy. 3***

Rating: 5***** I never get bored watching this, no matter how many times I have seen it.
