A Chip Off the Old Block

I didn't really have many expectations for ACOTB since I don't really like this time period and TVB comedies are either a hit or miss for me. ACOTB was for the most part entertaining to watch and the family relationships in here were touching. I wished they would have shown how difficult it would be for somebody in the 2000's to live in the 1960's since it seem Ron Ng's character adapted and adjusted really well; it seem like it should have been sort of like "A Step into the Past" but not as bad of course. The whole time traveling incident wasn't really explained well and I'm still confused about that but it's a comedy so I'll let it past. The ending is a cliffhanger since they are planning to make a sequel. I hope the sequel would be as entertaining or even better since it doesn't seem like there is anything left to show after most of the problems were resolved in the first one.

Sunny Chan: He's such a nice character that it's unrealistic but he was not too boring to watch. He was believable as Ron Ng's father. 5*****

Ron Ng: He's cute in here (but then again he's always cute to me) and his character was fun to watch. His acting has been improving every time I watch a new drama of his. 5*****

Myolie Wu: I didn't really like her character in here until the second half. I thought she was more annoying than funny but Myolie did a good job. 5*****

Shirley Yeung: She was cute as an uneducated and loud noodles-making girl. She was entertaining to watch. 5*****

Nancy Wu: Her character wasn't all that important but she was cute and believable as an educated and wealthy girl. 5*****

Mandy Wong: This is Mandy's first drama and she was not bad in here! This is not a breakthrough role but she was able to convince me that she can act. I look forward to seeing her in more dramas in the near future. 4****

Sunny+Myolie: They are a lot cuter in here than in "War and Destiny". Their opposite personalities were interesting to watch. 4****

Ron+Shirley: The cutest couple in here so I wished they would have focused on their relationship more. I'm starting to see why a lot of people like them as a couple. 4****

Themesong by Ron Ng and Myolie Wu: I didn't like it at all when I first heard it but it sort of grew on me. 3***

D.I.E. Again

I thought the first one was overrated since it was only an okay drama, but the second one was surprising pretty good. It's probably because I didn't get my hopes up this time around, but I thought the cases were slightly better since although it was still predictable on who the bad guys were, the process of getting there was interesting. I also like the addition of some of the new cast (Macy Chan, Him Law, and Zac Koo). However, I don't get why TVB made a big deal that Roger Kwok and Sonija Kwok's baby would have a big role in here though because the baby wasn't all that important until the end. Also, the last case was really similar to the "Saw" series; maybe it was supposed to be a parody?

Roger Kwok: I love Roger in here since his character is so cute and smart! It was kind of random that there was no explanation for how he didn't died in the first one though since I didn't get to watch the alternative ending. 5*****

Sonija Kwok: She was slightly less annoying in here since I grew to like her stubborn and impulsive nature. Her constant chasing of Wong Ching was also hilarious. 4****

Derek Kwok: His character is sweet so it was sad that he couldn't end up with Margie Tsang. 5*****

Nancy Wu: Her haircut was really ugly in here but she was good. 4****

Mimi Lo: Her character is hilarious in here! I wished she had more screen time though. 5*****

Stephen Huynh: He looks really good in here and I like the chemistry he has with Mimi. 4****

Macy Chan: Her character reminded me a lot of her character in "Forensic Heroes II"; it was cute but too repetitive. 3***

Him Law: This is the first time I have seen him act and he's pretty good. He's pretty cute and funny. 3***

Rain Lau: She's always a great actress! 5*****

Kitty Yuen: Her character was interesting in here. I didn't like her too much in the first one but she was interesting to watch in here. 3***

Zac Koo: His character cracked me up with his vanity. This is also the first time I have seen him act and he was pretty good. He reminds me so much of Michael Miu when he was young though! 3***

Jessie Shum: She portrayed the icy, but has a hidden "wild" side, forensic scientist well. Her character was underdeveloped though; I thought she was going to be the love interest for either Roger or Stephen. 3***

Roger+Sonija: Their characters are still cute together. 4****

Roger+Anita Chan: Their teenage love was cute. 3***

Derek+Nancy: I like Derek and Margie better but Derek and Nancy were surprising not too bad as a couple. 3***

Nancy+Edwin: They look better as a couple in terms of looks but there weren't really any chemistry. 2**

Mimi+Stephen: I really like them together and it was cute watching their married life. 4****

Macy+Him: I'm assuming they ended up together since it wasn't too clear. They're really cute together too. 4****

Macy+Zac: I like Macy with Him better but they were not bad together either. 3***

Themesong by Roger Kwok: It's pretty much just the remix of the first one. 3***

Rating: 4**** A lot better than the first one but too bad it's underrated.

Rosy Business

I don't know if my expectations were too high for this drama or not since although RB was good, it wasn't the greatest drama ever made. I felt RB was too repetitive of other TVB dramas like "Safe Guards", "Sweetness in the Salt", and "The Silver Chamber of Sorrows". Most of the cast were also the same with some even portraying similar characters. However, it didn't make the same mistakes as "Safe Guards" and "Sweetness in the Salt" did. "Safe Guards" had some miscast while "Sweetness in the Salt" was a little slow and draggy.

Sheren Tang: Her character is so strong and intelligent. I hated Sheren's hairstyle in here though. 5*****

Wayne Lai: This character reminded me a lot of Wayne's character in "Safe Guards". Both are stubborn and semi-bad but are not evil. 5*****

Ron Ng: His character is cute since he was so naive and innocent. 5*****

Elliot Yue: For a character that has a lot of wives, he wasn't annoying and was actually likable. 5*****

Susan Tse: She was a good evil character and she reminded me a lot of Susanna Kwan. She's prettier than Susanna but Susanna is a little bit better at portraying evil characters. Susan was an ATV actress and the only other drama I have seen her in was "Central Affairs II". 5*****

Kiki Sheung: She's has been playing a lot of annoying characters lately but she does a great job at it. 5*****

Kara Hui: Her character reminder me of her character in "Safe Guards" but she's a lot weaker in here. 5*****

Pierre Ngo: This character is almost the exact replica of the one in "Sweetness in the Salt". He's a lot more evil in here though. 5*****

Kelvin Leung: Not bad for a newcomer and he's pretty cute. 2**

Suki Chui: Her character was kind of annoying and useless but at least she didn't have a lot of screen time in here. 3***

Nancy Wu: She has been typecasted as "loose" girls lately but she's good at them. I hope she gets larger roles in the future though. 5*****

Sheren+Wayne: Does Sheren's character like Wayne's character? It's obvious that Wayne's does but not so much Sheren's. I like the friendship they shared though. 5*****

Sheren+Elliot: They were a pretty cute couple, especially when they flash backed to their childhood years. 4****

Elliot+Susan: 3***

Elliot+Kiki: 2**

Elliot+Kara: 3***

Wayne+Nancy: They didn't make such a bad couple either. 3***

Ron+Suki: They don't really look like a couple and it seems like they only got together because there were no other young actresses left for Ron. 2**

Themesong by Ron Ng: Ron's voice sounds really gentle and nice in here; this is my favorite song of Ron's. 5*****

Legend of the Demigods

LOTD is not the best fantasy/mythical drama but it was okay to watch once. There were some good/funny scenes but I thought LOTD was a lot better in the first half than the second half since it got draggy and repetitive with the whole good versus evil. The ending was also pretty weird even though it was a happy one. In addition, the CGIs were really bad and laughable but they got better as the drama progressed (or maybe it's because I just got used to them...?).

Linda Chung: I really like her hairstyle in here since she looked adorable! Her character was cute but sometimes it got annoying. Although this was filmed two years ago, I thought Linda was bearable and her acting improved. However, the sad part is, I thought she did a better job in here than in "Moonlight Resonance", which was filmed this year...does this mean that Linda is not improving as the years go by or it depends on the role/drama? 3***

Sunny Chan: I felt this role didn't bring out the best acting abilities from Sunny since he has a lot more potential. The character was kind of cute but I wasn't that interested in him. 3***

Benny Chan: Benny's acting has pretty stopped improving but I'm not sure if it's because of the repetitive roles/dramas he keeps getting in which he's not able to unleash his full potential or it's because this is all he has to offer. I like how Benny is the most realistic character of the three though since he's not completely good or evil. He can be annoying but you can't really hate him. 3***

Halina Tam: I like how Halina received a larger role in here and for the most part, I thought she was a good villain. Not a breakthrough role but she was enjoyable to watch. Her character is pitiful but I think she took the whole revenge thing against Timothy Chen's character too "seriously". 4****

Stephen Au: He was a pleasure to watch in here and I like how he wasn't typecast as a villain in here. 4****

Nancy Wu: She was convincing as a brainwashed "disciple" to Halina since she really did seem like a robot. I wanted to see more of a softer Nancy though. 4****

Auguste Kwan: I haven't seen him for awhile and I thought he improved. 2**

Charmaine Li: I'm starting to take a liking to Charmaine; she was cute in here. 3***

Sherming Yiu: I haven't seen her since "Catch Me Now" so it was a nice surprise to see her in here. I think she has potential but sadly, she never gets larger roles. 3***

Chan Hoi Yee: I haven't seen her for awhile and I thought she has gotten a lot prettier. I think she is better at "evil" roles since she acted pretty natural. 3***

Linda+Sunny: It was kind of weird that they both started to like each other near the end but they were an okay couple. I like their wedding scene but it was weird how they didn't stayed married...even though it kind of made sense that they didn't...TVB is weird. 2**

Linda+Benny: It was kind of surprising to see Benny liking Linda since I thought he was kind of a "playboy" since he initially liked Chan Hoi Yee because of her looks. They were a lot cuter in "The Biter Bitten". 1*

Stephen+Nancy: Their love story was heartbreaking. 3***

Auguste+Charmaine: They looked adorable together. 4****

Auguste+Sherming: They didn't have that many scenes together. 3***

Ending song by Linda Chung: The best song sang by Linda. 5*****

Twin of Brothers

I was so excited to watch this since I love the main cast and by just looking at the pictures, I fell in love with Ron Ng and Leila Tong as a couple. Although not the greatest drama, since the political problems were kind of boring and the plot was sometimes draggy, the cast and the chemistries between them saved this drama.

Raymond Lam: 5*****

Ron Ng: He was still too stiff and "wooden" in some scenes. 3***

Tavia Yeung: I like her character in here since her actions were understandable. A lot of people didn't like her in here because she rejected Raymond for her family but I thought she was selfless and not blinded by love like every stereotypical woman in ancient dramas. Tavia also looked gorgeous in here. 5*****

Leila Tong: A lot of people also didn't like Leila in here because her character is too "boring" but how exciting can a priestess be if she's devoted to a life without male encounters and love. I thought Leila brought out many layers to this role that other young actresses probably couldn't do. I love her costume and hairstyle in here. 5*****

Li Qian: Everybody loves her in here but I thought her character was annoying and she's not attractive to the eyes. However, I don't think she's a bad actress. 3***

Nancy Wu: I don't really like Nancy but she was good in here. Her character wasn't all that likable to me but she was for practically everybody else though. 4****

Raymond+Tavia: They look really good together but too bad they didn't end up together. 4****

Raymond+Li Qian: Some of their scenes were cute but I still prefer Raymond with Tavia. 3***

Ron+Leila: My fourth favorite TVB couple since they are so cute together! 5*****

The Silver Chamber of Sorrows

It took me awhile on whether or not to watch this since I don't really like this time period (I only like the really ancient ones or the modern ones) and the cast is not all that grand since it only has a couple of my favorite/likable actors/actresses. The plot did sound interesting but felt a little bit clichéd and stereotypical. However, after reading a review, I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I watched this because this has got to be my favorite TVB drama for the year 2008 so far and the best ancient drama in a very long time. I fell in love with TSCOS right at the beginning and was never once bored watching all 21 episodes. I absolutely love the character developments and the many twists to the storyline. The main problem/conflict of story doesn't start right away so I felt the synopsis gave too much away; however, the "slow-paced" of the big conflict nicely created tension until it was discovered. Sadly, this drama is underrated and not really known about because of its cast.

Paul Chun: He surprised me so much in here since I never thought he could portray such an evil and despicable man since he's always acting as the nice, fatherly man. His looks and actions scared me, which proved to me that he is a wonderful actor; definitely a breakthrough role for Paul. 5*****

Nancy Sit: I was excited for this role because Nancy kept saying how evil her character is but honestly, her role was not all that "evil". Her character is not as nice as the one in "Virtues of Harmony I and II" but she's still nice here with flaws, which makes her human-like. 5*****

Christine Ng: Another breakthrough role since I never really liked Christine as an actress until now. She really surprised me since she was successfully able to portray a woman blinded by revenge. She's the most pitiful character and Christine looks really pretty and young for her age in here. 5*****

Ng Wai Kwok: I only saw parts of "The Drive of Life" and thought he was an okay actor. He was pretty good in here and I felt sorry for him. 5*****

Rebecca Chan: She's fantastic in here as usual since she was so annoying as the Second Wife. I like how she had a softer side to her in the end. 5*****

Shirley Yeung: I'm kind of disappointed that Shirley is once again portraying the same role; however, I'm not that annoyed with this character so I guess Shirley is doing a better job. I'm still surprised that Shirley still needs to use eye drops for her crying scenes though since I thought she could cry on cue by now. I do give props to her for being able to pick up frogs since she's really scared of them in real life. 4****

Jack Wu: I adore Jack so I like how he's getting larger roles but he wasn't as great in here as in other roles. 4****

Nancy Wu: I thought this would be Nancy's breakthrough role but it's nothing new since she has portrayed these types of characters before. 4****

Charmaine Li: I'm starting to like Charmaine as an actress since she has been constantly improving in every drama I watch her in. Her character is likable and I like how she didn't turned evil after being rejected by Jack. She's also getting cuter. 4****

Winnie Yeung: I was surprised that Winnie actually improved in here since she wasn't painful to watch and was likable. 4****

Paul+Nancy: It's sad that they never really loved each other since their marriage was arranged. 4****

Paul+Rebecca: 3***

Lost in the Chamber of Love

I was excited to watch this because it's an adaptation of a classic Chinese legend but I was so disappointed with this because it has nothing to do with the legend other than the beginning.

Face to Fate

The half first of FTF is really good but it sort of went downhill after that and the ending was unsatisfying.

Frankie Lam: This role reminded me too much of the one in The Herbalist's Manual. He did a better job in here though. 5*****

Raymond Lam: I like how this role was a little different with his hair turning white but it still reminded me of the one in Twin of Brothers. 5*****

Tavia Yeung: Her character was annoying but her acting is good. 4****

Selena Li: She improved so much and her character was likable. 4****

Frankie+Tavia: They were okay and it was left opened ending on whether they ended up together or not. 3***

Raymond+Selena: A lot of people like this couple and I thought they were cute but not all that great. 3***

D.I.E.

After hearing so many great reviews for this, I was excited to watch this. Although a good drama, it didn't really appeal to me until the second half since the first half seem too ridiculous, Sonija Kwok's character was kind of annoying, and the cases were too easily solved by me. I do give TVB props for creating a surprising ending even if it wasn't a great one. This ending kind of reminded me of "To Catch the Uncatchable's" ending.

Roger Kwok: Roger never fails to disappoint me since he has excellent acting in every role he acts in. He also gets more cute and handsome as he ages. 5*****

Sonija Kwok: I have come to like Sonija's acting since she was convincing in here and I like how she's taking on different roles. I found her character annoying in the beginning but she's such a strong, independent woman that you can't really hate her. 4****

Kenneth Ma: Kenneth looks so handsome in here but his character is such a jerk for cheating. He does redeem himself at the end so he's more likable in here than in "The Master of Tai Chi". 3***

Margie Tsang: I am so glad she's acting again because she was an actress during the 1980's that I like. Although she's not as pretty as before, I like how she's natural and her acting was fantastic. 5*****

Mimi Lo: I love her character in here since she's so funny! She can be annoying in the beginning since she's obsessed with Roger but she gets better after she gives up on him. 4****

Roger+Sonija: I initially didn't like them together because Roger is too old for Sonija but their characters were cute together. Too bad it was a sad ending for them... 4****

Sonija+Kenneth: Sonija looks older than Kenneth even though I think they're about the same age in real life? They had cute scenes together but there wasn't enough chemistry between them. 3***

Kenneth+Queenie Chu: They look better as a couple but I don't think either one of them truly loved each other since their relationship formed because of lust and responsibility. 3***

Margie+Derek Kwok: Margie looked older than Derek but they were cute together. 4****

Mimi+Stephen Huynh: They were adorable together but I wished there were more scenes of them together and there should at least have been an explanation on how they hook up since it was out of nowhere that they became a couple. 4****

Themesong by Roger Kwok: I like the song but I think I would have like it even more if another singer sang it since Roger is a fantastic actor but not that great of a singer. 3***

War of In-Laws II

I love this sequel more than the original (which is rare). This was more realistic and Liza Wang was not too annoying. I thought the original was overrated but too bad, this one is kind of underrated.

Liza Wang: I like her in here. Her hair is horrible though. 5*****

Myolie Wu: I liked her better in the ancient one; she was super annoying in this one so I can see why Liza hated her. 4****

Bosco Wong: I also liked him better in the ancient one but he still did a good job. 4****

Joyce Tang: I'm glad she's acting for TVB again since she's a great actress. She also looks so pretty in here. 5*****

Liza+Benz Hui: They were adorable together but they don't fit in terms of looks. 3***

Myolie+Bosco: I can see why there are so many fans of this couple since I thought they were overrated in the ancient one. 4****

Bosco+Vivien Yeo: They look good in terms of looks but no chemistry. 3***

Joyce Tang+Derek Kowk: I love them as a couple! They are so cute together. I just wished they had more scenes together. 5*****

Themesong by Liza Wang, Myolie Wu, and Bosco Wong: Pretty catching but the rapping has to go. 3***

Rating: 3.5*** I would watch this again.

Phoenix Rising

I was excited to watch this because it looked so interesting and mysterious but it got dragging and unbelievable at times. Nevertheless, this is a good drama in its own way.

Crystal Tin: She did a good job but I have only seen her acted before in "Coincidentally" and she was good in there too. It still baffles me on how she's the oldest sister when Louisa looks older than her and I think Louisa is older in real life too? Her character got on my nerves a lot for being so nice and naive. 5*****

Louisa So: She was really good as a villian; she gave me chills with her looks! 5*****

Leila Tong: Her character was kind of annoying too but Leila did a good job. 5*****

Sunny Chan: He's good as always. 5*****

Jack Wu: Very cute and lovable! He should get promoted more. 5*****

Crystal+Sunny: Their characters were cute together but they didn't have enough chemistry on screen. 4****

Leila+Jack: They were really cute together! I hope they pair up in another drama. 5*****
